Who are the people that you can just talk to for hours? I'm talking the kind of friends you could travel across the country with. We all have a select handful that we could stand to be in a car with for days on end. Now let me ask you this—if there are people in this world that you can talk to like that, who you feel safe and giggly with, who listen and genuinely care, WHY would you marry anyone else?? Remember, the goal isn't just to find someone to find someone. Find the great love of your life, or nothing.

Honestly, when I see a submission like that—where I'm hard pressed to find a single grin— you can bet that no matter how steamy a pose, I just won't feel the spark. Love should be LAUGHTER. It should be JOY. And good grief, if it should be anything, it should be more than a little bit SILLY! Let us see your happiness. At Northern Utah Weddings, we strive to highlight only the best. But you just get the tail end of the story, you just see where these businesses have arrived. Few know the stress, monotony, and oh-so little sleep of being a business owner. One who is inspiring me today is Betsy of Betsy Couture and Lizzy Slip. She became a single mom of five kids 20 years ago and knew it was sink or swim—but for her sinking was not an option! One day at a time she has gone on to build an OUTSTANDING reputation for her gowns, specializing both in custom dresses and alterations. This post is the the particularly picky bride. 😉 If you know you'll need options galore, here's a little something to help you narrow it down. Our top picks for bridal shops with a wide variety!
1. Fantasy Bridal For the more conservative in style, "Usually it's hard to find modest dresses that don't feel like they all look the same, but their selection was amazing and I felt like I had a plenty of choices."
2. Mary's Bridal If customer service is most important, "Everyone there made me feel like family...My sister got her dress here, two of my best friends got theirs here, and now I have a dress from Mary’s bridal too!"
3. Betsy Couture What could provide more options than custom work? "When I tried on my dress after the final alterations my only thought was, "It's absolutely perfect!" Betsy has a depth of skill and experience that allows her to take any project and create a customized masterpiece."
4. Bridal Image. If you don't have time to shop around, "I went to 5 or 6 places near Salt Lake and none of them compared [to Bridal Image] in selection. I bought both my veil and dress here. They aren’t a huge store, but they have a wide selection and their dresses are beautiful!"
5. The Perfect Dress Shown in the picture above! If covid or distance makes the process difficult, "I needed to find a dress via video call since I couldn’t be in Utah until much later so Izzy had someone put on some dresses for me and made my experience as sweet as possible even though it wasn’t an “in store” experience."

Fifteen+ years ago I worked at a local bakery as I got through college. A darling new girl began—all heart and guts, freshly returned from orphanage work in Ecuador. I discovered in Randee qualities that the truest friends have. Depth, humor, connection, devotion, and since those beginnings she has always been someone who inspires me. She is one of those gems—the friend that rather than giving advice or solutions chooses instead to live with not fixing. She just offers a comforting hand. She listens, she stays. Though we didn’t see each other for a long time, her friendship was always there, a river underground. A decade and a half later we are at last working together again!! I am beyond thrilled to announce that Randee Wells is the new Production Manager for Northern Utah Weddings! It’s a pure joy to have her back in my life. There are no more words. 💛💛💛

FINALLY!!!! Oh my goodness, resolving the quality issues took for-EV-ER but at long last the hard copies of the Autumn 2021 Issue are looking all dolled up and perfect! Last night when they told me they almost had my order complete I stayed until 2 am getting all the packaging ready. As I finished labeling the last couple I realized I had put on ALL of them the name on the return address as the name of my other magazine, Utah Valley Weddings. 😳😣😭 Can we chalk that one up as single mom brain? Yep, totally playing that card. 😉 But then this morning I picked the print copies up and they are 🎶 GOR-GEOUS!🎶 Drove straight to the post office, stuffed the packages In The Parking Lot with my toddlers attempting to climb out the windows, and then got them SENT OFF TO YOU!!! YAY!!!! Thank you to everyone who has been so patient!! While I hated making you wait, seeing the before and after differences of the quality issues we ran into has given me peace. I appreciate your support and calm twiddling of thumbs while you waited! SENDING LOVE!!!

Photographer Shout Out! From our first issue when this darling couple made our cover, I have absolutely fallen in love with the work of @jennypearlphotography. What I love most about her style is that she captures this UNFILTERED JOY. They are all raw emotion and genuine spark! And then she gives that gift back to the couple, those same feelings of hope and gentleness, every single time that they look at those photos for years to come. Because THAT’S when you need it. First off, quick announcement: The print versions of our Autumn 2021 Issue have ran into a technical difficulty, so it will be about a week before those are in the mail. Thanks for your patience!! If I didn’t mind putting out something sub-par it would be on its way to you, but no way that’s happening! The quality will be worth the wait!

Okay, Now! Let’s talk photography! I am a SUCKER for photos loaded with light. Throw in a golden flare and I’m dying. They just capture magic, don’t they? Here are a few photographers off the top of my head who just do a masterful job of gathering light and helping us hold onto the wonder.

@kalinanicholephoto I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—her work belongs on the cover of a Nicholas Spark book! I get excited everytime I see a submission from her.

@kierstinjones Beyond light, this girl knows how to capture the REAL. Brilliant with candid work and playful prompts, you can see the personalities shining through her images.

@katelyn.keddington I just feel happier when I look at her pictures. Her use of light brings such a peaceful, whimsical feel.

@lauren.rosephotography I am picky about the spark that is in photos we accept to our magazines, but Lauren doesn’t need to worry about that. She captures the light not just in the scene, but between the couples.

@jessieanddallin And these two are always spreading light! I love the light in their photos, but even more, I love that when I’m reading reviews of Utah professionals they have already been there and have had something kind to say! Now that’s the sort of people you want to work with!!
